Gather around kids and let's go back 25 years to an age when the turnpike was not yet in Garland. This clip was taped on June 28, 1987 and covers three miles from the Brand & Naaman School intersection northwest to Holford Rd, north to Blackburn Rd, then west to Shiloh Rd and ends at the old Rockwell plant, whatever it is now. I know this is all unrecognizable, and in tribute to my appreciation for history I have annotated the video to explain what you're seeing. Looking back, here is an interesting map of this area from 1959: www.lib.utexas.edu Looking forward, what I'm wondering is (1) will the two Brand Road segments ever be connected straight through, fixing that strange dog leg near PGBT & Brand, and (2) whose bright idea was it to put that ridiculous traffic circle on the southern Brand Road segment?
